Re: Binary choice with status quo
I have a new question. I want each survey respondent to be randomly assigned one of the eight blocks (six choice situations for each respondent), which is then split into three choice situations for local projects (one of the scenarios, either local or non-local restoration project location) and ...

Re: Binary choice with status quo
Thank you. About the second point, shouldn't the SCENARIO in the interaction terms in the utility function of second alternative, alt2, be SCENARIO[SCENARIO] instead of SCENARIO[0,1]? Otherwise the alternatives might have different scenarios?

Re: Binary choice with status quo
Michiel,
Thank you. The reason I have only a single alternative besides the status quo is that a referendum-style choice (voting yes or no on a proposal) is considered more incentive-compatible when the payment is a mandatory tax. As you point out, there is a trade-off, and I wonder if there is a ...

Binary choice with status quo
I am designing a binary-choice CE in which the survey respondent votes for or against the proposed project. The alternative is the status quo, representing a situation where the proposed project doesn't happen, and the wetlands will be lost.

Re: Differentiating scenarios across alternatives
If I want to estimate varying coefficients for each attribute depending on location (local projects within the respondent's neighboring counties or non-local projects outside of neighboring counties), shouldn't the location (that I call scenarios here, which was confusing) be one of the attributes ...

Differentiating scenarios across alternatives
I am designing a choice experiment that asks respondents which wetland protection option they choose. There are two protection options and one status-quo option. Without protection, all attributes in status quo will see negative levels as wetlands' areas decline. The status quo attribute levels ...

Re: Fixed attribute levels for status quo
Thank you for the advice and additional suggestions. They are very helpful.
One clarification about your comment: What do you mean by "you can keep the cost coefficient separate"?
For this survey, I also want to differentiate two scenarios, one assuming the projects happen in survey respondents ...
